About the Work

How to Disappear is a sound installation consisting of a video, a recitation of a paragraph in both English and Chinese (only the English part is read by Google), and a text that has been translated into 6 languages and displayed in a loop on the LED caption machine. In a way, the work manages to prove the possibility of something that has been reckoned impossible through a record that cannot be reproduced or verified. It is a demonstration of my view on art. A significant proportion of art is about method. As an artist, I believe there are things that are beyond imagination but nothing is impossible. We are not confined to limitations imposed by disciplines or media. Its a privilege. We are the planner and analyst of perception. For us, there is only one task: to demonstrate what we feel and perceive to the physical world. Probably many would think it sounds surreal or even ridiculous. But I have a habit: I always try to think from the opposite side of the so-called standard. That is why I chose How to Disappear as the opening piece of this exhibition. In terms of methodology and subject matters, it functions as an ideal preface and overarching metaphor for the exhibition.
