News: ZHOU Siwei at Guangzhou Image Triennial 2017

Artist ZHOU Siwei is participating Simultaneous Eidos -- Guangzhou Image Triennial 2017 at Guangdong Museum of Art. The predecessor of Simultaneous Eidos -- Guangzhou Image Triennial was Guangzhou International Photography Biennial Exhibition hosted by the Guangdong Museum of Art, which was one of the major international photography biennials in China. Its basic purpose is to uphold the humanistic standpoint with international horizon and sociology of images and participate and promote the development of contemporary photography and culture in China. Reviewing the past three photography biennials (in 2005, 2007 and 2009), each exhibition established a theme and academic orientation focused on the history of photographic photography in order to showcase contemporary photographic practices. At the same time, the passion of national art museums for photography research and collection is ignited.

Zhou Siwei cut the images mounted on boards into various irregular shapes, and piles them up as a temporary structure; something looks like a sculpture or architecture.Images in the work are sourced from various ways,no longer containing any meaning or energy, but only a kind of decorative function,or even become leftover bits and pieces for filling up the space, just like those cut images.

Images seem to become rubbish nowadays due to the constant development of replication technology.Zhou Siwei, however, with forms of product photography and advertising light box, presents the image status of politics and aesthetics being exhausted in business and consumption, making the observers face with the unconscious vision in a kind of worship-liked visual ceremony.
